The spring-summer 2018 collection from Ferm Living

It’s that time of year when homeware and furniture brands start releasing details of their upcoming spring-summer collections. I’ll be sharing some of my favourites over the next few weeks, starting with a Danish company whose ability to interpret the latest trends while staying true to its own distinctive aesthetic never fails to impress: Ferm Living.

Like its autumn-winter 2017 range, Ferm’s latest collection was styled and photographed inside its apartment-like Copenhagen showroom, known as ‘The Home’. Now decorated in muted shades of grey, blue and green with occasional splashes of burgundy, it has a smart, sophisticated air that shows off the brand’s designs to the full.

The collection itself incorporates the graphic, geometric elements that have become Ferm Living’s hallmarks but updates them with opulent textures, sculptural shapes and occasional nods to Art Deco style. Matte-black finishes – another key trend for 2018 – also feature strongly, with black candleholders, desk accessories and bathroom fittings, plus the striking ‘Pujo’ coat rack.

Stand-outs for me include corduroy cushions in shades of forest green, rust red, charcoal grey and indigo blue; the ‘Flying’ shelves, which combine minimal lines with eye-catching brass adornments; and new circular versions of Ferm’s iconic plant boxes, which can be used as side tables, plant-pot stands, planters and more.

Also new is the ‘BAU’ series of elevated plant pots and watering cans, which are made from grooved galvanised steel. They take their influence from the uncluttered forms and industrial surfaces of the Bauhaus movement and are designed to be as practical as they are beautiful.

And there are new colourways for a few existing Ferm Living designs, including grey-brown versions of the circular marble coffee and side tables, plus a beautiful charcoal option for the rounded velour poufs launched last year. The ‘Ripple’ collection of textured glassware has also been extended with the addition of tall drinking glasses – perfect for G&Ts!
